Arriving from the airport (Taxi)
If you arrive by air at YVR (Vancouver International Airport), our advice is that you take a taxi/ Uber/ Lfyt. Taxi fares from the airport are according to zones, and are pre-set, i.e. there is no need to check the meter. The standard fare to the UBC campus, where the AG is held, is $46. Depending on traffic conditions, the taxi ride should take you 30-45 minutes.
Arriving from the airport (transit - Canada Line):
Should you prefer to use public transit, there is a rail service from the airport called the Canada Line, originally built for the 2010 Winter Olympics. You should get off the Canada Line train at the Broadway-City Hall Station, and change there to the 99 express bus going west towards the University of British Columbia (UBC). This bus has its terminus at the UBC Exchange, which is 1.5 km (1 mile) walking distance from Orchard Commons. There is a minibus service from UBC Exchange, bus line 68, which will get you very close to Orchard Park in about 10 minutes. Ask the driver where you should get off the bus. Bus 68 does not go very frequently though, maybe every 20 minutes during the school year. Overall, the public transit option will take you 75-90 minutes.
You can pay for your transit service by cash, credit or debit card, but most people in Vancouver use a re-chargeable payment card called the Compass Card. You can obtain one at the Canada Line terminus at the airport. This card must be used at the automated turnstiles both on entering and leaving the Canada Line system, but in buses they have to be tapped only when entering the bus at the front. The standard charge for a 2-zone ticket for (which is what you need to go from the airport to UBC) is $ 4.85 for the ride plus a special airport surcharge of $ 5. Minors and seniors pay less, and only a one-zone ticket ($ 3.35) is needed in the evening and on weekends (the airport surcharge still applies though).
Travelling to downtown
If you wish to explore Vancouver by public transit on your own, electric trolleybuses 4 and 14 will take you from UBC to downtown.
